Tragic Sheep Accident in Melbourne, Australia
June 01, 2012
The truck carrying 400 sheep overturned on the Western Ring Rd overpass at Laverton North about 9pm. and the sheep crashed 40 feet to the highway below.
Hundreds of dead and injured sheep were strewn on the Princes Highway below…… “The scene was chaos with traffic trying to avoid the bewildered and injured animals in the dark,” a spokesman said….. The RSPCA said more than 50 sheep had to be put down and a “very low” number survived.
"Our inspectors described it as the worst accident that had ever seen," a spokeswoman said.
ALV wrote: “It was pitiful and very distressing. There were piles of dead sheep and others were dazed and in shock. By 1am (four hours after the accident) they started to use captive bolt pistols to kill the injured ones. Animals shouldn’t be on transport trucks driven to the slaughterhouse at ANY TIME.
